How To Reach Ranthambore National Park

Planning a trip to Ranthambore National Park? Reaching Ranthambore is easy if you know where to travel first.

The main town to remember is Sawai Madhopur. Most travellers reach Sawai Madhopur before going to Ranthambore. Sawai Madhopur Junction is the nearest major railway station. If you are flying, Jaipur International Airport is the main airport for this trip.

You can reach Ranthambore by train, flight, car, or bus. From Sawai Madhopur or Jaipur, you can take a taxi or use a hotel transfer.

!

Before leaving home, save your hotel's full address and map location on your phone. Do not search only for “Ranthambore National Park” when going to your hotel. Your map may show a park gate instead of your hotel or safari pickup point.

Transport Options At A Glance

Mode of transport Arrival point Onward journey When to consider it
Flight Jaipur International Airport Cab or pre-arranged road transfer to your hotel When flying is more convenient than a long train or road journey
Train Sawai Madhopur Junction, station code SWM Local taxi or pre-arranged hotel transfer When a suitable train is available for your dates
Private car or taxi Your hotel in Sawai Madhopur or the Ranthambore area Travel to the confirmed safari pickup point, if required For family travel, flexible departure times or a wider Rajasthan trip
Bus The operator’s confirmed stop in Sawai Madhopur Local transport to your accommodation For budget travel where a suitable service is available
When comparing options, include the final transfer. Reaching the airport, station, or bus stop does not necessarily mean you are close to your hotel or safari boarding point.

Reaching Ranthambore By Air

If you are coming by flight, Jaipur International Airport, also called Sanganer Airport, is the main airport used for a Ranthambore trip. There are no regular passenger flights directly to Ranthambore National Park.

After landing at Jaipur Airport, you can continue by taxi or a private transfer booked in advance.

The road distance from Jaipur Airport to the Ranthambore area is about 161 to 175 km. The exact distance depends on your hotel & the route used.

A private cab is a good choice for families, older travellers, or people carrying several bags. You can travel directly from the airport to your hotel without changing vehicles.

When booking a cab, give the driver your flight details & the complete hotel address. Also ask what the fare includes. Check if tolls, parking, and waiting charges are included.

You can also continue from Jaipur by train or bus. However, these services do not leave directly from Jaipur Airport. You first need to reach the railway station or bus boarding point.

Do not plan your safari too soon after your flight. After landing, you still need to collect your bags, meet your driver, & travel to Ranthambore. A flight or road delay can affect your safari.

If possible, reach Ranthambore one day before your safari. You can check in, rest, and get ready for the next day.

Reaching Ranthambore By Train

For many travellers, the train is one of the easiest ways to reach Ranthambore.

Your destination should be Sawai Madhopur Junction. The station code is SWM.

When searching for trains, enter “Sawai Madhopur” or “SWM” as your destination. The station is about 11 to 14 km from the Ranthambore area. The exact distance depends on your hotel.

When choosing a train, check the arrival time as well as the travel time.

A very early train may reach Sawai Madhopur long before your hotel check-in time. You may then have to wait with your luggage.

A very late train can also be difficult. You may reach your hotel late and have less time to rest before your safari.

After reaching Sawai Madhopur Junction, you can take a local taxi or use a pickup arranged by your hotel.

If your hotel is picking you up, send the driver your train number and expected arrival time. Also confirm where you should meet the driver at the station.

If your train is delayed, inform your driver as soon as possible.

Planning a morning safari? Reaching Sawai Madhopur the previous day is usually the easiest option. You can check in, rest, and prepare for your safari without worrying about a train delay on the same day.

Reaching Ranthambore By Road

If you prefer travelling by car, road travel gives you more freedom. You can choose your departure time, stop when needed, & travel directly to your hotel.

This is also a good option if Ranthambore is part of a longer Rajasthan trip.

A private car or taxi can be useful for families and groups with several bags. You do not need to first travel to a railway station or airport.

As a general guide, Jaipur to Ranthambore is about 161 to 175 km by road. The actual distance and travel time can change because of your starting point, route, traffic, and hotel location.

If you are travelling from Delhi/NCR, Agra, or another city, check the route to your exact hotel before leaving. Do not depend only on an old route or travel time found online. Road conditions and navigation routes can change.

Important

If you are driving your own car, remember that your car cannot be used for the safari.

Your road journey and safari are separate. Safari trips use approved Gypsy or Canter vehicles.

If you bring your own car, ask your hotel about parking before starting your journey.

Also, if you have a long drive, allow enough time to rest before your safari. Avoid reaching the hotel tired and then rushing to the safari pickup point.

Road Distance Between Ranthambore And Other Cities

The following rounded estimates are useful for initial planning. They are not fixed distances to every hotel or safari gate.

Jaipur 175 km
New Delhi 381 km
Agra 239 km
Bharatpur 202 km
Udaipur 388 km
Ahmedabad 640 km
Mumbai 1031 km

Your starting location, selected route, and final destination can change the distance. Check the journey to your hotel before leaving, and allow extra time for traffic, meal stops, and the final approach.

For a morning safari, reaching Ranthambore the previous evening gives you time to settle in and confirm your pickup arrangements.

Travelling By Bus

Bus travel is another option for reaching Sawai Madhopur.

Depending on your city & travel date, you may find state-run and private buses.

Before booking a bus, check these two things:

01

Where does the bus start?

02

Where exactly does the bus drop you?

A bus going to Sawai Madhopur may not stop near your hotel or safari pickup point.

You should also plan how you will travel from the bus stop to your hotel. This is especially important if your bus arrives late in the evening.

If you are choosing between a bus & a train, compare the complete journey. Do not look only at the ticket price.

Check the total travel time, waiting time, and the cost of travelling from the bus stop to your hotel. Sometimes a slightly more expensive option can be easier and more comfortable.

Getting From Your Hotel To The Safari

Arriving in Ranthambore does not mean you are already at your safari pickup point. Your flight, train, or bus transfer may not include travel to the safari.

If you book with Jungle Safari India, hotel pickup and drop-off can be included in the safari price for hotels within the confirmed pickup area. The exact service depends on your hotel, safari gate, and zone.

Staying outside this area? You may have to reach the given meeting point yourself. A paid transfer may also be available.

Safari Coordinator

Even nearby hotels may require you to reach a common boarding point. After arrival, call the safari coordinator using the number on your voucher. Confirm your location, reporting time, & meeting point. If coming directly, share your current location.

When Should You Arrive For Your Safari?

01

Morning Safari

For a morning safari, it is best to reach Ranthambore a day before. This gives you time to check in, rest, meet the safari coordinator, and prepare for the next morning.

02

Afternoon Safari

For an afternoon safari, do not arrive just before your reporting time. You may need extra time for your hotel, luggage, and travel to the pickup point.

03

Reporting Time

We, at Jungle Safari India, recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before entry time, unless the coordinator gives another time.

If your journey is delayed, contact the coordinator immediately. Late arrival may mean missing the safari, so always allow extra time.

Before You Leave Home

Before starting your journey, keep all your important travel details in one place on your phone. It is also useful to keep offline copies of your documents. Internet service may not always work properly during your journey.

Before leaving home, check that you have:

Your hotel's full address & map location

Flight, train, or bus booking details

Your transfer driver's phone number, if a transfer is booked

Safari permit and booking voucher

Required original identity document

Confirmed safari pickup point

Safari reporting and entry time

Also save your hotel's phone number & the safari coordinator's number. If your travel plans change, you can contact them quickly.

If you are making your Ranthambore safari bookings with us, share your travel date and expected arrival time.

Already booked your hotel? Send us its location too.

We can then tell you about the applicable safari pickup arrangements before your journey. This will help you know where to go, when to arrive, and how your safari pickup will work before you reach Ranthambore.
